When You Visit a Homeschooling Family...

When you enter the home of a homeschooling family, you just never know what you might find there! You might find:
  • stacks of books everywhere
  •  a brain made of Jello
  •  baggies with seeds sprouting in them taped to a window
  •  moldy food in the refrigerator (I mean the food we intended to grow mold on)
  •  perhaps a few Lego buildings burning down (No kidding...my son went through a phase during which he wanted to make Lego "sky scrapers," fill them with newspapers, and burn them down! An expensive hobby. He learned to save his own money for Legos if the plan was to burn them. I'm too cheap to watch those expensive blocks go up in flames!)
  •  paint made from old markers
  •  stacks of books everywhere
  •  various play doh creations drying on the window sill
  • lots of beautiful dolls with homemade clothing and lovely hairstyles
  • fun fluff made from microwaved Ivory soap
  • lovely artwork done with permanent markers
  • an occasional broken bone
  • an assortment of pets and wildlife
  • homemade rock candy science experiment
  • jars filled with who-knows-what on the counnter
  • and did I mention stacks of books everywhere?
So if you come to my house, beware! There's no telling what you might find. You probably won't find a spotlessly clean house, but you are guaranteed to have a good time and learn a lot!

  1. So very true! We have done or plan to do almost everything you listed (sans the burning legos... now I'm a little worried, this summer the boys are getting lots of legos for their bdays lol).

  2. Ha! Just don't let them read this post. ;) Actually, I have no idea how my son came up with that idea. Kids can come up with some crazy ideas sometimes! But it's always exciting living with them. :)

  3. This sounds like our house, only our Lego blocks are still whole! We were fascinated by the Ivory Soap in the microwave as well.

    1. :) I thought the Ivory soap thing was pretty neat too! It's so amazing the things people come up with.

  4. Hahaha....I got a kick out of the mention of piles of books everywhere! It makes me feel better to know that others have the same piles.

    1. Yes, Cathy, I think that's the biggest "weakness" of most homeschooling families! We love books, and we hate to ever get rid of any of them! I've been trying to go to the library more. :)
